All Roads Lead To… Wadesboro?

Tucked away in far northern Calloway County, Ky. about a mile west of Dexter lies the old town of Wadesboro.   Chances are you’ve never driven through Wadesboro or perhaps have even heard of it.  However, the story of Wadesboro is fascinating, given the designation of the first town in far western Kentucky, the area known as the Jackson Purchase.  For a while, all roads in western Kentucky led to Wadesboro.

Wooldridge Monuments – “The Strange Procession Which Never Moves”

Maplewood Cemetery in Mayfield, Ky. has many unusually large and ornate burial tombs.  The most prominent memorial display in the cemetery is the Wooldridge Monuments.  The curious set of 18 statues are known as “the strange procession which never moves.”

Center Furnace in Land Between The Lakes

In the mid-1800s, the iron ore industry exploded in the area known as “Between the Rivers.”  With its prime location due to its close proximity to the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers, the industry flourished.  These rivers were the best way to transport goods since railroads did not exist in this area at that time.
